Bison 5' Interlocking Slab Storage Rack Set by Weha

The Weha Bison 5 foot interlocking slab storage rack system is designed to store both individual slabs and bundles too. This slab storage system is a set of continuous locking racks for full slabs. The system is sturdy and durable with a design that ensures long life. The bison slab rack storage system is also engineered with safety in mind.

Bison Rack System Offers Sturdy Construction

Designed with durability and safety in mind, the Weha Bison 5' slab rack storage system offers design features that contribute to both of these goals. Some of the durability features include:

  • 2½" x 2½" Square Tubing
  • Hot Dip Galvanized
  • Premium Grade European Steel
  • 2" x 2" Galvanized Steel Square Tubing Uprights
  • Internal Steel Reinforcement

When you buy a slab racking system, you want to be sure the one you spend all that money on is going to 1) last, 2) perform well, and 3) be safe. The Bison 5 foot locking slab storage rack system meets all 3 three of those requirements.

Built to Last for Decades

In order to last a long time, storage rack for stone slabs must be able to support a lot of weight. The Bison's 2½" x 2½" square tubing ensures strong bundle support. Additionally, the steel used throughout the product is premium grade European steel including the base, the rails, and the posts. The uprights are a sturdy 2" x 2" square so they will bear the load for years. The Bison slab storage system holds up to 9,000 lbs. between the posts (4,500 lbs. per pole), so they will get the job done. These internal steel reinforced racks offer extra stability and strength. And they stay that way for a long time since the whole item is hot dip galvanized. Not coated, dipped! That means it will not rust, even the inside is protected.

Safest Slab Racks On the Market

Sometimes a product manufacturer will reduce safety to offer durability or to reduce cost. Not so with the Bison system. These racks are extremely safe. Each pole comes with a white rubber cap to prevent stone damage. With the angle brackets welded onto each pole, it becomes fool proof and sets the standard for slab storage safety. Base rails have male/female built in locking connectors. No extra connectors to keep track of. This allows a continuous storage with no space between sets. The 60" tall poles reduce slab angle force. With the length of only 5', it is much easier to store and ship. And ease yields safer work.

This system is 100% fool proof. Take the guess work out of the fabricators' hands. As long as the worker sets the bottom of the slab against the angle bracket (see below illustration), the weight load will be distributed correctly and there will never be issues with storing bundles, or improper weight loading on the poles, or the dreaded slab domino!

Case Study

One Southern California granite shop stores their slabs outside. As you might imagine, storing slabs on steel slab racks can result in the accumulation of rust which will inevitably stain the stone. Additionally, even if the outside of the slab rack were treated so as to not rust, over time, the fixture itself would lose strength and eventually collapse under the weight of the stone it is supposed to support.

The granite shop mentioned above purchased 5 sets of Weha slab racks. Would the racks being stored outside in the elements (exposure moisture and salt) withstand the weather? 16 years after these rack were installed, a check of their condition proved that these slab racks looked just as they did the day they were purchased.

No doubt the sturdy construction coupled with the hot-dip galvanized treatment contributed to the racks' resistance to the weather. Thus contributing, not only to their 16 year usage, but also to the many more years of use they will yet provide this granite shop. Our conclusion is that these Weha slab racks will easily last 20 years and perhaps even a quarter of a century.

Competitive Pricing

The Bison 5' slab rack set is a premium quality product designed for years of use. Of course, if you compare these high quality racks to inferior quality products, the pricing will be a bit higher. But when you take the quality of the Bison into consideration, the reality is these racks are competitively priced.

For example, if you compared these racks to a system that is $200.00 less, you would likely be tempted to choose the lower priced system. However, if it is better quality and longer lasting, the benefits offer a return on the investment of the higher price. How so?

All it takes is 1 failure of a slab rack that has 6 bundles in it, and tens of thousands of dollars of slabs will break. Additionally, the lost slab rack needs to be replaced. Or, 1 failure could severely injure and employee and much more than money is lost. So, what appears to be a savings of a few hundred dollars on racking at the time of purchase could cost you much more than that on 1 failure. Those failures often occur because of the rack weakening over time or from a design that allows them to be used incorrectly.
